The Life List

The Life List

WOW the way this movie changed my life. I watched this when I was at a point of my life where I didn't have much motivation to do anything, was always either working or studying and felt like I was losing my passions and hobbies. Watching this movie inspired me to make my own list and I started going out more and doing things like pottery, volunteering, sports, and more exploring.

this is like top 4 in my letterboxd. i love it so much def my top romance movie. the way you would think she is the bad person but she was just dealing with so much in her own life she didn't have the mental capacity to love him. and he's just too precious for this world. i feel like we often see characters like forrest be portrayed as "dumb" or can't fend for themselves but he really proved the opposite and showed me that anything is possible despite what background you come from.

I have soooooo much to say yet I am just left speechless all over again. Avatar 2009 is really 10/10 across the board. What a genre defining, boundaries pushing, memorable, and impactful experience that was!!! 3 hours of pure escapism, and a roller coaster of soo many strong feelings. One of the movies that really makes you feel that you are literally there present inside the movie because the immersion is just that strong. Just WOW!!! I gotta say the whole franchise is just Absolute Cinema!!!

This was actually so good. I watched the first and second movie so long ago I lowkey forgot what the plot was about but I watched both immediately the next day. Made me a certified Avatar fan. Avatar edits were the only thing on my feed for a while.

Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can

So tonight I watched Catch Me If You Can, & I absolutely loved it. If you asked me to say something negative about this movie, or point out a problem/flaw/issue with the film without it being an invalid nitpick, I would honestly have a difficult time doing so, and I just watched the movie for the first time tonight.

The score, the music, and that opening sequence are all wonderful, the directing, writing, and acting is some of the best and top notch, the pacing always knows when to go slow and take its time and when to pick up the pace and go a little bit faster, it never really feels like you are watching a 2 hr long movie.

Not to mention it is a great game of cat and mouse story and a great character driven story as well, especially since our two leads are likeable and have understandable goals and motivations, not to mention the chemistry between the said two leads Hanks and DiCaprio are top notch.

Oh, almost forgot to mention, and the visuals are very period appropriate and well done as well.

Despite the fact that the film's plot reflects social inequality, it is presented straightforwardly and simply. Throughout the story, the film asks us to ask questions in our heads. More than that, it is excellent in terms of production. Every point of view, color grading, and sound effects are meaningful and exciting, drawing the audience even deeper into the film. Overall, it's still a fantastic film with a great script. To make it more understandable, the film concerns heavy topics like class and social inequality. The audience can answer the question at the end of the story that the villain of the story is not the poor or the rich, but social inequality, which causes people to be villains. I was also obsessed with the ramen and beef combo for a while after watching this.

Wow gave me a new perspective on what love means. I was so sure she was going to choose her ex boyfriend but I guess a person holds a different kind of value if they had kids with them. Was such an eye opening movie. Watched with my mom and we were both crying lol.

(500) Days of Summer

(500) Days of Summer

Marc Webb

Watched: November 8, 2024 • Rating: 8/10

In my first watch through I felt really bad for Tom because at first glance it seems like he was screwed over by this one chick who just used him for entertainment and "fun" then dumped him when she grew tired of the relationship not even attempting to save it. On the second watch I noticed Tom projected a lot of his romantic feelings and dreams towards Summer which she never asked for, she does explicitly say she wasn't looking for anything serious and he disregards that and continues to pursue her love. Now with both perspectives in mind they both have some faults but in my opinion Tom was the lesser evil, he just wanted love and I don't think that's too much to ask for but he just went in the wrong direction with it. Summer however just kinda did what she felt like and was honest about it but being honest doesn't mean that it wasn't wrong.

The concept is confusing till you get to the end and then it connects every piece that is shown till then. Looking back now no movie has given me the chills like this when I can't solve the mystery. I usually can identify the killer in many movies or the plot because I'm a little bit of a detective myself so it's simple if you think really and notice basic things. Leonardo and Mark Ruffalo were the perfect duo amazing casting overall. The deep emotions and the way Leo plays the character is way too intense it's like seeing something out of this world you don't think for a moment that he is acting but it's just real like watching a documentary or something the plot was played perfectly as you have no clue till it is revealed you cannot guess I don't think anyone could've guessed how it was gonna end.

Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society

If your inner calling has to do with something artistic and the world is constantly preventing you from doing it, you most definitely need to watch DPS. If you're an aspiring poet or writer, you HAVE to watch DPS.

As for people just looking for films to watch, I would surely recommend it because it's filled with important learnings we most probably skipped in our schools. Another reason why I would recommend it is because of its presentation of the dynamics between art and the society as a whole.

If you lack self-motivation, this movie does consist of the material that can force you out of your slump and give you a fresh breath of air to get things going.

American Psycho

American Psycho

At first glance, the movie may appear very gross and terrifying. However, it somewhat ceases to be when you realize that most of it was probably imagined by Bateman. I mean, some of the situations in the movie are so unbelievable it's hard to believe they could be true. However, the movie is actually a very well written satire of the corpo world.

The movie takes all the stereotypes about businessmen and mocks them in a sophisticated manner. The overt attachment to unimportant details, like business cards. The obsession with always having the most expensive things (Bateman remarks that Allen's flat overlooks the park and is surely more expensive than his). The omnipresent misogyny, depicted in a very grotesque way. The fruitless strife to maintain originality (Bateman bores his visitors to death with detailed information about obscure rock bands).

It may be exaggerated, but i think that the movie paints a surprisingly entertaining vision of many things that are wrong with society.

For instance, Bateman murders first victim Paul Allen, because he can easily get a reservation at an expensive restaurant, while Bateman doesn't seem to be able to no matter what. That drives him to hatred.

Bateman may be the one who "snapped", but it appears obvious that other corporate workers are similarly "corrupted" - it's just that they have grown used to it.

First, the movie is over 2 hours long but I felt like the characterization of the trio was very shallow. Tashi looks good and is obsessed with competition, Patrick lives the tennis dirtbag life, and Art is over the hill and just going through the motions.

All of these were established basically as soon as the characters were introduced 10 minutes in, and I don't think a single flashback scene added anything more to their characters besides the first one showing the two dudes might be gay/bisexual. At least Art had the honor of being the only one who seems to change at all between age 18 and 31!

Some questions I was left with… Patrick is dirt bagging it up sleeping in his car, but he comes from money. Why? Did he have a falling out with his family? What was his tennis career for 13 years like? Why were these two so relentlessly pursuing Tashi in the first place, besides her being hot and good at tennis? Surely she has a third character trait. Idk, I feel like all these flashbacks that ate up half the screen time just go over the same things again and again.

Next up was the style of the movie. I was not a fan of the shitty nightclub music blasting out every 5 minutes, or the constant slow motion shots of people staring at each other. The last 20 minutes of the movie would've been like 45 seconds in real time. When Tashi and Patrick were hooking up in his car, what was with the unexplained hurricane in the background? I was so distracted that entire scene by all the paper flying around.

I don't usually give up on movies, but good lord this was a tough one to sit through.
